Pablo D. Gómez-Sandro
Born and raised in Uruguay, South America, Pablo D. Gómez-Sandro emigrated to Shaker Heights, OH in 2007, where he has resided since. He was an educator for more than 30 years, first as a music teacher and head of “Instituto Musical Polimnia” (a music school he founded in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1990), and later as a part-time Spanish and Music teacher at various universities in the Cleveland area.
Pablo holds a Master degree of Music in Composition, a Master of Arts in Spanish, and a Ph.D. in Music Theory / Composition. When the pandemic hit, Dr. Gómez-Sandro decided to pivot. He quit his teaching positions and opened a business, a move that gave him the flexibility to dedicate more time to composing.
Diverse and versatile, Dr. Gómez-Sandro’s compositional style is the result of multiple artistic influences over the years. His orchestral language is mostly abstract, with emphasis on texture and color. He also writes for ensembles of various sizes, solo instruments, hybrid orchestra, electroacoustic music, and media.
He just finished the revision and re-mixing of “Broken Mirror,” for solo marimba. He is currently working on “Kultrungtun II” for two percussionists (adaptation of the piece for solo percussion written in 2013-2014). He is also writing two new pieces: 1) an audiovisual cue for orchestra, and 2) a work for gong ensemble and other metal percussion instruments.
The next premiere of Pablo D. Gómez-Sandro’s music will take place on April 26, 2026, when his “Ritha’, For that Walk Back Home” (for bass flute) will be part of the 2026 edition of the Greater Cleveland Flute Society’s annual concert.
